I took a picture of this wild animal in our yard a couple of years ago. This nocturnal animal was always visiting our yard every other night to look for food and we found out that this is called the “Philippine Civet”. Commonly referred to as "civet cats," more closely related to the mongoose family than to felines, and are specifically classified under Asian Palm Civets. Its local names are motit in Ilocano, alamid or musang in Tagalog and Southern Luzon and balos in Davao del Sur and South Cotabato’s dialect.
Did you know that the most expensive coffee in the world is coming from this animal poop? The coffee Alamid or the Civet coffee is selling between $120-$600 per pound. The favorite food of this civet is the coffee cherries and every early morning the forest dwellers pick the civet droppings on the different forest floors of Philippine mountains.
