Bad moods are no fun! They can harm or even destroy relationships. But do bad moods just come and go, taking you prisoner until they pass? Is there anything you can do about them?
Yes there is! Psychologists define moods as emotions that stay with us for more than a brief period. Sadness, anger, depression may linger for hours, days or even weeks. But there are ways to overcome bad moods. With effort and determination, you can control them. Here are some list from my favorite book "Youth" about how you can beat your bad moods.
Talk it out. This is one of the best ways to control bad moods. Parents, friends, teachers-somewhere there's a sympathetic soul who will hear what you have to say. Talking about our feelings helps us to clarify and understand them. Usually others have had similar experiences and survived! Talking to them might just give you the lift you need.
Exercise. Here is yet another way exercise helps you. Just getting your body moving when your mind is stuck can do wonders.
Sleep on it. Sleeping helps in several ways. Sometimes tiredness or exhaustion can add to a bad state of mind. Sleep can refresh us mentally as well as physically.
Help someone else. This may sound like strange advice, but it can really help. We often compound our problems by dwelling on them and feeling sorry for ourselves. Helping others takes the focus off ourselves. Find a way to help someone else. That person will feel better and so will you!
