How to prevent having an ingrown toenail?

Ingrown toenails are usually a big-toe problem. A thick, sharp nail starts growing into the tender skin at the corner of the nail, cutting the skin as it grows. This was my hubby’s problem before. The incised area becomes red, painful and vulnerable to infection. It was really bothered him and I noticed that he almost tried anything to make it better. Until he found out and applied home remedies.

ingrown toenail
  • don’t wear tight shoes or socks. Have your feet measured whenever you buy new shoes. Pick socks or tights that don’t squeeze your toes together.
  • don’t cut nails improperly. Always cut them straight across, leaving a little extra nail on each side. Then file the corners very slightly.
  • keep your feet clean
  • as much as possible, if you are at home, just wear shoes that are open at the end, such as sandals.
  • Before cutting your nails, soak your feet in warm water for a few minutes to soften the nail.
You should call a doctor if your toe is oozing pus – a sign of infection.
