Home remedies for bruises

I’m one of those people who are always taking a bump. Maybe because I’m doing my everyday task so quickly. If you’re also one of those people who are always taking a bump, you will probably see the traditional black-and-blue colors, which are the trademark of most bruises. Actually, the colors take on a palette of hues, from purple to green and yellow. Normally, bruises fade in 10 to 14 days without any treatment. But I'm sure no one wants to slow down the healing or fading process.

So, here are some things we can do:
  • Apply ice as soon as possible around the bruised area. I’ll make sure I have an icepack handy at home.
  • I’m usually got bruised on my arm or leg. I should immediately wrap an elastic bandage around the bruised part. The bandage helps to prevent blood vessels from leaking and the bruise won’t be quite as severe.
  • If you bruise your leg, for instance try to take a break and settle into a sofa or armchair with your leg up on a pillow, above heart level.
  • After cooling a bruise for at least 24 hours, it’s then safe to start applying heat to bring more circulation to the area and help to clear away the pooled blood.
  • Rub with any of arnica, hirudoid ointment, crushed parsley leaves of St John’s wort oil into the bruise. Do not apply this to areas of broken skin.
